OFFICER’S NOTES:

MARCH

From the Youth/Junior Director

I’m having a hard time trying to figure out whether I should be wishing everyone a Merry Christmas or possibly preparing a nice juicy turkey for dinner……  What crazy weather we have been having!

Anyways, what I really want to say is THANK YOU to everyone that either donated an item or placed a bid on the silent auction items during Spring Fling.  I would like to especially thank the Frensdorf’s for their contributions and help, Barb Wolfe for all of her help making the bidding sheets and everyone that donated an item(s):  Karen Mitchell, Colleen Price, Heather Beierle and anyone else that I may have missed.  This was a great success which will benefit the WBRA Youth and Juniors.  We were able to raise $459 that day and every penny will go towards their year end awards.

Be prepared for another great money maker during Futurity weekend……..  I’m planning on doing a 50/50 raffle each day!

From the Novice Director

To Novice Competitors,

The season is in almost full swing.  I send Melissa the standings pretty often. Please check the website for the latest standings.  If you have a different amount than is listed please contact me via e-mail if possible.  Also, if you are novice and win money in the open, you need to e-mail me with the money earned and where, as I do not receive the open earnings from each race.  You also need to report money won at non-approved WBRA races, as this money changes your lifetime earnings.  Good Luck to all of you.

Also, I want to thank all of the ladies that helped me put out all of the awards at last year’s awards banquet.  Thank you to Melissa Tosi and Pam Capper for your support.  Thank you to Karla Whiteside for always standing behind me and believing in me.  Thank you to Shawnee Lanphear for putting up with all of my e-mails.  Thank you to Dusti Campbell for helping me put on the races to raise money for the awards and for all of the wonderful people who helped get sponsorships.

“A dream is a wish your heart makes.”

Sincerely, Wendy

From the President

Hello WBRA,

I hope everyone made it through this challenging winter.  Kudos to those members that have been riding in the snow in order to get ready for the upcoming races and encouragement to those that are just getting started.

We are in full swing, with lots of approvals and races in several areas.  The 2008 calendar is nearly full with races from Ellensburg to Moses Lake to Okanogan to Spokane.  There should be a nice variety of arena options this year.

Our Spring Fling and Futurity Committees have been working hard to gather sponsorships, awards and organize their event.  These two groups have done an outstanding job up to this point, so expect two excellent weekends of barrel racing. Please take a minute to thank them, they have put hours and hours into the preparation and will continue with that until the completion of their barrel race.  I am very proud and enthusiastic to see so much work and cooperation with members on these committees.

Please plan on attending the Spring Meeting that will be held Saturday March 22, with the Spring Fling race.  It will begin immediately after the 1st race.  The main topics will be organization for the Last Chance and Finals Committees & funds disbursements for each of the divisions.  The Officers and committees will also give progress reports.

Lastly, I thought it would be helpful to let you all know what dates are still available for races.  If you would like to put on a race in your area, it is important to schedule it early as the dates are filling up fast.  That means lots of barrel racing this year.

Available Dates (as of March 3rd):  April 27th, May 17th,18th,24th,25th, June 1st, 15th, 21st, 22nd,29th, July 5th, 6th,12th,13th,27th, August 9th,10th,16th,24th,31st, September 6th,7th,14th,20th,21st.

That’s all for now,

Karla

FEBRUARY

Publicity

Hi gals, these last couple of months have been CRAZY.  We moved to another house on the ranch, and even though it is was not even a mile away, it was the hardest move of my life, still not done!!  So I wanted to let all the gals that got back to me about doing a Legends Story on their wonderful mounts, I WILL be in touch with you gals soon, so we can get started.  I am so excited as I know they will be awesome stories for all to read and for you to have forever.

I emailed several of you with ideas, there are many more out there that have not crossed my mine, so if any of you have an idea, a horse that would be a great story please contact me I would be honored to write their story.

O.K. getting back to it, hopefully I will be at a race soon!!  Maria

From the Youth/Junior Director, Rebecca Rose

Well, it’s that time of the year to start thinking about raising money for our wonderful Youth and Junior competitors!  With Spring Fling and the WBRA Futurity just around the corner I couldn’t think of a better time of the year to accomplish this.  We have a great group of young ladies and I would love to see everyone participate in some form or another.  I am working on putting together a “GET AWAY PACKAGE” to raffle off and I hope to have some great items in this package that anyone and everyone would be excited in purchasing/selling tickets for.  With the help of each Youth and Junior member as well as their parents and possibly fellow WBRA members, I believe that we can make this a great success!

Some of the items that I would love to see, but not limited to, in this “GET AWAY PACKAGE” would be:

These are just a few items that I have come up with and I’m sure that there are some of you out there that also have some great ideas.  The items that we put together should be received as a donation so there may be some leg work involved by all.  Let’s pool our ideas and resources together to make this one great success!

Please contact me by email with your ideas and/or suggestions ASAP, Spring Fling and the WBRA Futurity are just around the corner.  I look forward to hearing from everyone!  Once I’ve heard from you I will send you a sponsorship letter that you may use to help acquire a donation.

Thank you,

Your Youth/Junior Director

The reason most people never reach their goals is that they don't define them, or ever seriously consider them as believable or achievable. Winners can tell you where they are going, what they plan to do along the way, and who will be sharing the adventure with them.  Denis Watley

DECEMBER

From the Youth/Junior Director

Happy Holiday’s Everyone!

I hope everyone is enjoying themselves and looking forward to your winter break!  I’m still working on some sponsorships for both the Youth and the Junior’s.  If anyone has a sponsor in mind let me know and I can send you a sponsorship letter to hand out.

In the 2008 rule book there will be a clarification made on how the Youth and Junior points will be handled during Finals.  The clarification will state that points will be awarded for each go and the average.  By making this clarification it will ensure that the Youth/Junior divisions will be handled exactly like all of the other divisions.

If you have any questions about this you can contact me either by email or by phone.

The Lessons My Horses Have Taught Me

The lessons my horses have taught me,

Are more lessons than I care to count.

My horses have taught me what friendship

And being compassionate are about.

My horses have taught me that riding

Is a way for humans to fly.

My horses have taught me they’ll be there,

When I need to have a good cry.

My horses have taught me that spirit

Is something you can’t take away.

My horses have taught me a whinny

Says more than a person could say.

My horses have taught me my passion,

My horses have taught me to forgive.

My horses have taught me that my dreams

Are possible to live.

But perhaps the most important lesson of all:

My horses have taught me to always, always

Get back on when you fall.

FROM  THE VICE PRESIDENT:

The new year has started off with a bang with good turn outs and some fast times.  Just a couple of reminders.  Members, please be sure to get your Open Nomination in as money won will not count toward standings until that is received. If you are a first year member you are eligible for Rookie status so any first year members (excluding Junior/Youth memberships), please let me know.  Race Secretary’s if you could email me or send me a copy of the actual race sheets, I would appreciate it.  That way I can keep track of the 5 Prime WBRA races required for awards.  Also, if anyone needs a copy of the race result form, let me know and I will send you one.

That’s all for now.
