Ways & Means - January Update

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I hope everyone has had a good start to 2010.  Please remember that as a member of WBRA it is your responsibility to work on one committee throughout the year.  You can choose from the Spring Fling, Futurity, Last Chance or Finals as these are the four major races WBRA puts on.   Below is a brief update on the two upcoming events:

Spring Fling Committee:

Chairman:  Katy Bremner

Location:  Sartin’s Arena – Sunnyside, Wa.

Date:  April 3, 2010

Katy has begun work with her committee members to get the event planned.  If you would like to assist Katy with this event, please contact her.  Donations need to be secured for the event as well as planning for the race day itself.

Futurity Committee – Speedhorse Shootout Weekend:

Location:  Appleatchee Arena – Wenatchee, Wa.

Dates:  April 17 & 18, 2010

WBRA will be working with the Appleatchee group in Wenatchee to put on the Speedhorse Shootout Weekend.  There will be a full slate of races with something for everyone – Futurity, Maturity, Poles, WBRA races, Never Won a Saddle Race and 4D races.  In the absence of a chairman, the Board will oversee the effort with help from those members who have designated futurity weekend as their committee.  Please contact me if you would like to volunteer to help with this event.

I know it’s early in the year but we need to start working diligently on these first two races to get our year off to a good start.  A chairman will need to be identified for the remaining two committees – Last Chance and Finals as locations need to be determined.

December Update 

Seasons Greetings! 

Katy Bremner is beginning work on the Spring Fling Committee.  Katy has notified me that it looks like Spring Fling will be held at Sartin’s Arena in Sunnyside rather than Moses Lake on April 3, 2010.  If you have selected Spring Fling as your committee, Katy will be in touch with you to begin fundraising efforts as she is looking to raise a minimum of $1,000 for purse money.

The board continues to work on plans for Futurity weekend with more details forthcoming as final decisions are made.  A committee chairperson is still needed for that committee.  Please contact me if you are interested and I can give you more details.

It is important that all members take part in working on the committees as these are great fundraisers for WBRA.  Please think of ways you might contribute especially by securing donations on behalf of WBRA.  This is an excellent time of year to contact businesses you support to inquire about potential sponsorships as many businesses will be looking to finalize budgets for the upcoming year.  If you need further information for potential sponsors, please contact me.

Ways and Means Report

November 2009

Hello Everyone,

For the last two years, members have been asked to choose a committee to assist on as part of their membership with WBRA.  The committees work to put on the four major events that WBRA has (Spring Fling, WBRA Speedhorse Shootout/Futurity, Last Chance and Finals weekends).  Each of these events takes a great deal of time and effort and in the end are the major fundraisers for WBRA.  For each event a chairperson needs to be designated who will in turn work with their committee members to put on the race.

I am happy to report that Katy Bremner has volunteered to chair the Spring Fling committee.  Katy is tentatively working to have the race held in Moses Lake in early April.  For those of you who have designated Spring Fling as your committee, please contact Katie (katy@kvalley.com) as work needs to begin now for race preparations.

I am also asking for volunteers to chair the other events.  If you are interested or have questions, please let me know.  As chairperson, you will choose the location of the event and work with your committee members to make all necessary preparations for the event itself including raising the money for purses and awards if you decide to give them.  The Board is always available to guidance.

I have included below a list of members thus far and their committee designation.  If you have not designated your committee, please contact me as soon as possible.
